VANCOUVER, BC – August 5, 2021 – The Government of Canada has appointed Joseph San Inn Fung, Principal Director of Fairchild Capital Management Limited and Managing Partner of Saltagen Ventures, to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
Mr. Fung has worked at the crossroads of business execution and strategic development as an investor, entrepreneur, and operator since 2002. He manages and operates a venture capital fund house focusing on life sciences, material sciences, agricultural technology, clean technology, and education. He actively spearheads public-private institutional support from Canada and Hong Kong to help businesses successfully develop opportunities on a global scale. Mr. Fung is also the founder and managing director of Fairchild Canadian Academy, driving education innovation as a research leader in curricular and professional development with Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, and many leading universities in Hong Kong.
Mr. Fung also serves as the Hong Kong ABLAC representative for the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, the innovation and technology chair for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the advisory board member of Creative Destruction Labs Global, the management board director of Versitech under the University of Hong Kong, and the board director of Saint George’s School.
Mr. Fung plays a key role in bridging the private-public policy gap and driving technological advancement and business innovations in the Asia Pacific.
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada serves as the secretariat for Canada's APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) members, providing research, analysis, and administrative support. This private-sector body presents recommendations to APEC Leaders in an annual dialogue and advises APEC officials on business sector priorities and concerns.
As Canada’s new ABAC Canada Member, Mr. Fung will serve a three-year term (2021-2024) and joins current ABAC Canada Member Jan De Silva (2019-2022), President and CEO of the Toronto Region Board of Trade and former CEO of Sun Life Financial’s Hong Kong and Mainland China businesses.
