Aston Mathias

Ashton is an Economist at the Economic Development and Corporate Finance Branch of Finance Canada. He previously held positions at Environment Canada and the Canadian Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna. Regarding the former, Ashton was part of the team responsible for negotiating the Environment Chapter in Canada’s prospective FTAs and participated in 12 rounds of trade negotiations during his term. His scholarly interests in the region include Canada-Asia trade relations and environmental and labour policy. Ashton is fluent in French and Konkani. He holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs from Carleton University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from McGill University.
